Following a successful first season and its recent sold out production of
A Slice O' Minnelli, the Transatlantic Talent series of stylish musical soirées returns to the Theatre Museum featuring established and emerging British and American cabaret artists.
The performances take place cabaret-style in the Museum's sophisticated Paintings Gallery. The second season takes place on Fridays 6 October, 3 November and 1 December 2006. Set to appear on each date are:
6 October: NATHAN MARTIN & SHELLY GOLDSTEIN
British performer Nathan Martin shares a bill with voluptuous Californian songstress Shelly Goldstein.
"Nathan Martin, a former child prodigy on piano, is now a respected London based singer, pianist and musical director with a wry sense of humour and a winsome smile. Having performed at venues around the world, he has accompanied cabaret luminaries including Morag McLaren,
Brent Barrett and Gay Soper. He is also a West End pianist, playing regularly on
The Producers at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. This will be his first solo show in four years.
Following his own act, Nathan will accompany Shelly Goldstein (shown left), previously seen in London at
Pizza on the Park. Shelly is an American comic and singer (as well as a Hollywood screenwriter and producer) with a fascination for London in the swinging sixties. In her show
One Fine Day: The Groovy Girls of the 60s, she applies her California dreaming and psychedelic costumes to songs by Janis Joplin, Carole King, Dusty Springfield and other fab 60s chicks."
3 November: PETER JOHNS & MARIA ST CLARE, KAREN MACK &
Michael HollandBritish music hall artistes Peter John and Maria St Clare are joined by comic American duo Karen Mack and
Michael Holland.
"Peter John and Maria St Clare are members of The Players, a troupe of Victorian Music Hall performers that has existed since 1936, in various venues. Their extensive repertoire includes well-loved songs such as 'My Old Man Said Follow The Van' and 'A Little of What You Fancy Does You Good'. Both are adroit at recreating Victorian Music Hall moments, including speciality cross-gender comic numbers.
In contrast, New York comic musical duo Karen Mack and
Michael Holland offer modern music, deranged medleys and dubious trivia. They bring their multi-award winning mix of harmony and humour to the best (and worst) of past, present and future pop music. From ABBA to Queen to Kylie and back again, expect lush vocals and comic mayhem in what is always a spontaneous and a truly one-off show."
1 December: SHONA LINDSAY & DOUG ANDERSON
London's lusciously lyrical Shona Lindsay is joined by Minneapolitan comic singer Doug Anderson.
"One of the West End's most talented leading ladies, Shona Lindsay is currently headlining the revival of
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, having previously starred in a multitude of shows including
The Phantom of the Opera and
Grease. Mixing traditional musical theatre repertoire with jazz standards and work by contemporary composers, Shona shows her versatility and verve, whilst at the same time paying homage to the songs that have given her a career.
Mischievously comic singer and nimble dancer Doug Anderson performs his solo show,
Man Wanted. Named after a song from Barry Mannilow's perennially popular musical
Copacabana, Doug's show is about his own comic quest for love. This charming singer and dancer has performed in major theatres in Minneaplolis and has presented his cabaret shows in Minneaplolis and New York."
Theatre Museum is located atr Russell Street, Covent Garden, London WC2. All performances at 8, doors at 7:30. Bar available before the show.
Tickets: £12.00 / £10.00 Concs. Box Office: 0870 162 0298 (24hrs) or
