In January 2019, All That Productions in collaboration with The Other Palace are launching a brand new scratch night of new musical theatre. All That Scratch will be an evening of curated new musical theatre writing recorded live at The Other Palace and released as a podcast.
All That Scratch wants to see more new musical theatre being provided an outlet to share the new work, nurturing new creative voices in writing, direction and performance. This initiative aims to address the disconnect between entry level creatives and the ability to forge early collaborations by working together, without the commitment of putting together a full production.
The release of the Podcast edition of All That Scratch means that regional audiences can access the brand new work from All That Scratch. Every single one of our new musical theatre scratch performances will be recorded and uploaded so no one has to miss out on accessing new work .
Alex and Charlie, the All That Productions team, talk about the idea behind the new scratch night: "As directors, we get really excited about new musical theatre. But the development of new musicals is often long and can be tough to finance and find collaborators to work with. The industry is brimming with exciting new composers, writers, directors, and performers, telling new stories and writing new songs. It can be difficult for artists across the country to share work at an early stage, or even find collaborators to work on an idea with. We want All That Scratch to be that platform where artists can come together to write a song, beginning a project that may culminate in a full, brand-new musical. For audiences this is a chance to access something brand new and contribute to its development by feeding back to the creative team and influencing the next steps in development for the piece. We're thrilled to be partnering with The Other Palace on this project, Kiki and the team have been so supportive of us, and the work they do in supporting new musicals is vital to the industry."
Kiki Stevenson, Artistic Programme Co-ordinator at The Other Palace explains why the venue are supporting a new scratch night. "At The Other Palace, supporting the genesis and development of new musical theatre is integral to what we do. We're always looking at new ways to nurture fresh talent and we're committed to providing opportunities for early-career creative voices to share their work with audiences. I am delighted that All That Scratch will be premiering here in our studio, and to be able to release the event via podcast is equally exciting."
