The Night of 1000 Voices, the star-studded event celebrating musical theatre at the Royal Albert Hall, raised the roof and £100,000 for blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
The fabulous musical extravaganza took place on 2 May, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and marking the 10th year of this hugely popular evening.
From We Will Rock You to Jesus Christ Superstar, the evening was hosted by Al
Ed Jones and included performances from
Brian May, Ainsley Harriot,
Robin Cousins and a host of West End and Broadway stars including
Kerry Ellis (Wicked, Les Misérables),
Philip Quast (Les Misérables, La Cage Aux Folles) and
Adam Pascal (Rent). The West End's distinguished conductors,
Mark Warman, Stuart Morley and
David Firman supervised the massed chorus of Sing Live UK and USA
accompanied by the City of London Philharmonic.
In 2010, The Night of 1000 Voices was for the benefit of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. This is the only UK charity solely dedicated to saving lives through research into better treatments and cures for all blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive, says: "We were wowed by The Night of 1000 Voices which made our charity's 50th birthday celebrations a spectacular affair. We're very grateful to Hugh for bringing together so many talented performers who gave incredible performances. We're determined to beat blood cancers and the £100,000 raised will help us invest in life-saving research."
Event director, Hugh Wooldridge, says "I'm delighted that The Night of 1000 Voices in its 10th year was able to make a substantial contribution to the fight for a cure for blood cancers. The Royal
Albert Hall also generously named Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as its Charity of the Year. Many people freely gave of their talent and expertise and they will all be thrilled to hear the evening raised £100,000 for a wonderful charity."
Spurred on by their success, Hugh Wooldridge is working with Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research to plan another event at the Royal Albert Hall for Sunday May 11, 2011. Further details will be announced in a few weeks time. For further information, visit www.thenightof1000voices.com
