On 19 February at the Prince of Wales Theatre, West End and Broadway star Kerry Ellis (Wicked, We Will Rock You, Oliver!) was voted Winner of the Jo Hutchinson International Best Solo Performance at the WhatsonStage Awards (2012).  Kerry Ellis will next be appearing at the Royal Albert Hall, in another production produced and directed by Hugh Wooldridge, for the benefit of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, The Night of 1000 Voices, on Bank Holiday Sunday May 6.

Ticket sales for this forthcoming production have been so spectacular that an extra 4.00pm matinee has just been added.

The Night of 1000 Voices is an annual, star-studded event celebrating musical theatre.  This year hosted by Christopher Biggins (I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here), star performers confirmed from London’s West End include Ricardo Afonso, Daniel Boys, Bonnie Langford, Peter Polycarpou, Clive Rowe, Caroline Sheen and Sally Ann Triplett.  From Europe, Germany’s leading man, Yngve Gasoy Romdal, and perennial favourite, David Michael Johnson.  The Producers also promise Special VIP Guests.

Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research says:  “Kerry Ellis, and her producer and director Hugh Wooldridge, has supported Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research with two outstanding performances at The Night of 1000 Voices and ANTHEMS: the Concert and we are delighted that, on top of the fund-raising success, her performance has been recognized with this Award.  We’re looking forward to working with her again at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday May 6.  Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is entirely supported by well-meaning individuals coming together to support our charity.  We are so happy that the musical theatre community supports us with such open hearts, arms and pockets.”

Hugh Wooldridge, Producer and Director of the Award-Winning Anthems, The Concert and The Night of 1000 Voices says:  “I have always been a huge fan of Kerry’s since we worked together on Chess in Concert.  She is a major talent and it is great that she has been recognised by this WhatsonStage Award.  I look forward to a reunion with her at the Royal Albert Hall with her choreographer, Steven Paling, on May 6, 2012 for The Night of 1000 Voices.

For this Olympic and Diamond Jubilee Year The Night of 1000 Voices will be celebrating the Best of British including some of the most requested songs from Evita, The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables and, new for 2012, Miss Saigon.

The charity concert will again be for the benefit of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.  Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is dedicated to saving lives through leading UK research into better treatments and cures for all blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.  The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on people coming together to fundraise.

The West End’s distinguished maestros, Stuart Morley and David Firman, will once again supervise the massed musical forces.
