When were you happiest?

Every day brings some happiness.

What is your greatest fear?

Being convicted of a crime I didn't commit and being incarcerated. Oh, and spiders.

What is your earliest memory?

Staying at my grandma's house with my two older brothers when I was four.

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?

Minnie Mouse.

Which living person do you most admire, and why?

My father and mother; just ask anyone who knows them.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Not listening to other people when they explain how to use my mobile phone.

Property aside, what's the most expensive thing you've bought?

An engagement ring and two wedding rings.

What is your most treasured possession?

An engagement ring and two wedding rings.

Where would you like to live?

I'd like to spend more time where I do live.

What makes you unhappy?

I used to spend a lot of time unhappy. These days I don't wallow in pity; I try to rectify problems.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

Nothing, I am gorgeous.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Ben and Jerry's and a film.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

A large tub of Ben and Jerry's, please.

What is the best job you've done?

Touring north-east England performing a play about bullying called Frankie's Friends. It's a fantastic play and the young people loved it.

Cat, cat, cat, cat.

To whom would you most like to say sorry?

So many people, so little time.

Who is your best friend in theatre?

At 47 I'm still working with people I was at school with and met in youth theatre. I've many true friends. I'm a very lucky boy.

Which living person do you most despise?

I don't waste energy on negative thoughts...Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, George Bush, the Tea Party (all of them).

If you could edit your past, what would you change?

For good or ill I can't remember a large portion of my past.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?

San Francisco, 1968.
