Ralph Fiennes plays the villainous title role in Rupert Goold's new production of Shakespeare's RICHARD III at the Almeida, opening tonight. Vanessa Redgrave is Queen Margaret, and the cast also features David Annen, Joseph Arkley, Osman Baig, Benedict Barker, Tom Canton, Daniel Cerqueira, Simon Coates, Josh Collins, Susan Engel, James Garnon, Mark Hadfield, Scott Handy, Lev Levermore, Finbar Lynch, Aislin McGuckin, Joseph Mydell, Lukas Parish, Joshua Riley, Lukas Rolfe , Joanna Vanderham, Baxter Westby and Oliver Whitehouse.
RICHARD III is designed by Hildegard Bechtler, with costume by Jon Morrell, sound and composition by Adam Cork, lighting by Jon Clark and fight direction by Terry King. Casting is by Joyce Nettles. The production runs until 6 August, and will also be broadcast live to cinemas in the UK and around the world on 21 July.
It's the latest salvo in Ralph Fiennes's long and distinguished career, which includes seminal film roles and acclaimed stage work. His screen credits include Schindler's List, The Constant Gardener, The End of the Affair, Coriolanus, The Grand Budapest Hotel, In Bruges, The English Patient and parts in two major franchises: Voldemort in Harry Potter and M in James Bond. On stage, his work includes Much Ado About Nothing, The Plantagenets, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Man and Superman, God of Carnage, and The Master Builder.
