Rehearsals are now underway at the Citizens Theatre for Trainspotting, which makes its much anticipated return to the Gorbals venue later this month.

The sell-out stage version of Irvine Welsh's seminal novel plays at the Citizens Theatre from 18 October - 11 November, before moving to the King's Theatre Edinburgh, where it will be presented by Selladoor Scotland, from 14 - 18 November.

Harry Gibson's landmark adaptation of Trainspotting was first staged in the Citizens Theatre's Stalls Studio in 1994, only nine months after the novel itself was published.

This revived version, directed by Gareth Nicholls, received five star reviews during its 2016 run. It takes Gibson's scabrous text and transforms it into a main stage production with "a raw new power." (Independent)

Four of the five strong 2016 cast are returning for this year's run.

They're led by Lorn Macdonald who reprises his "spectacularly brilliant" (Scotsman) performance as Renton - the same role that catapulted Ewan McGregor to international stardom in Danny Boyle's film version. Macdonald, who is fast becoming a regular on the Citizens stage, recently appeared as Orestes in Dominic Hill's critically acclaimed production of Zinnie Harris's The Oresteia: This Restless House at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Also returning are Gavin Jon Wright as Spud, Angus Miller as Sick Boy and Tommy and Chloe-Ann Taylor as Diane and Alison.

Joining the 2017 cast is Martin McCormick who plays Begbie - the character made famous by fellow Royal Conservatoire of Scotland alumnus Robert Carlyle.

McCormick was most recently seen on the Glasgow stage in the Tron Theatre's production of Anthony Neilson's The Lying Kind and was nominated for Best Actor in the Stage Awards 2010.
