A darkly surreal play exploring religion, terrorism, female sexuality and obsession.

A desolate town is shaken by a blast at its core. Suspicions abound, its inhabitants should look inside where a stranger manipulates the society from within. This stranger is Janet, a young woman torn between Islam, Christianity and secularism. She is a victim of her confused childhood, of her sexuality and of her mental disarray.

THE WRONG SLEEP tells the story of a woman plagued by insomnia, the demons in her mind and the demons of her past. During her sleepless nights violence and religion lure her towards committing acts of terrifying brutality. Violence and sex are the only ways Janet feels she can communicate with the world.

In January 2007 THE WRONG SLEEP had a reading at the Pleasance. After developing the script through workshops it was performed at Etcetera Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe Festival, 2008. The c*ckTavern Theatre presents this new production as part of their dynamic season of World Premieres.

Lumenis Theatre Company was founded in 2006 by international practitioners. They produce writing that is provocative and controversial, which calls for a fearless company willing to take creative risks. Lumenis believe that theatre should not push an agenda, but rather reflect the world in which we live, in all its complexity, beauty and ugliness.

Current projects include a summer tour of Les Chaises; a showcasing of three new short plays at the Old Red Lion (June 2009), Southwark Playhouse (July 2009) and Camden People's Theatre (August 2009).

Mary Mazzilli began writing plays in 2001. She trained at Soho Theatre and the Royal Court. Her plays have been performed at Hampstead Theatre (Generator project in 2004) and Blue Elephant Theatre (Cavemen). Her short play Attempts on a Missing Chair will be performed at Southwark Playhouse and Camden People's Theatre this summer as part of Lumenis Theatre Company's tour of Les Chaises.

She is about to finish her PhD thesis in Chinese and Comparative Literature at SOAS, on Gao Xingjian and Martin Crimp's plays.

Director Adam Morley trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and The Bournemouth Film School. He was Video Director for Michael Twaits critically acclaimed productions of The One You Love, Confessions of a Dancewhore and Icons (Time Out Critics' Choice).

In 2006 he won the Young Directors Award at Cannes Lions for his directing in advertising.

On stage he has directed for Newsrevue at Canal Cafe Theatre and productions at Etcetera Theatre, Soho Theatre and the Cockpit Theatre. At last year's Edinburgh Fringe he was Artistic Director at Sweet's newest venue La Sweet Cantina. Adam is also currently Creative Director for the hugely popular internet channel POD3TV.

Formed in January 2009 The c*ckTavern Theatre is rapidly establishing itself at the forefront of the London Fringe. Under the artistic leadership of Adam Spreadbury-Maher it is committed to seeking out and providing a platform for tomorrow's leading playwrights and directing talent.
