The Government Inspector has been nominated for an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement In An Affiliate Theatre for its run at Theatre Royal Stratford East. The play ran at Theatre Royal Stratford East from 18 - 28 May 2016 as part of a UK tour produced by Birmingham Repertory Theatre in association with Ramps on the Moon. It was written by Nikolai Gogol, adapted by David Harrower and directed by Roxana Silbert.
Artistic Director of Theatre Royal Stratford East Kerry Michael said today "We are thrilled that the ground-breaking work of Ramps on the Moon has been recognised at this year's Olivier Awards. We are working with the rest of the Arts Council funded consortium to address the under representation and employment of disabled people in the theatre industry and hope to push accessibility to the forefront of the arts in general.''
Ramps on the Moon returns to Theatre Royal Stratford East this summer with The Who's Tommy - the multi-award winning rock musical written by Pete Townshend, produced by New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich in co-production with Ramps on the Moon, directed by Kerry Michael. The original production played at the theatre in 1979 and this new production sees original cast member Peter Straker returning as The Acid Queen. Tommy is on at Theatre Royal Stratford from 7 - 17 June 2017.
Ramps On The Moon is a consortium of seven major theatre companies committed to putting Deaf and disabled artists and audiences at the centre of their work; to accelerate positive change, explore opportunities and stimulate awareness of disability issues within arts and culture. The project is supported by public funding through the Arts Council's Strategic Touring programme - the largest award of its kind. The consortium venues are New Wolsey Theatre, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Nottingham Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres, Theatre Royal Stratford East and Graeae Theatre Company.
