Stockwell Playhouse London Presents THE PEREGRINE Image"The Peregrine," a new contemporary play by award-winning New York playwright Philip Holt, directed by Rodney Pearson and produced by Fred Gray, makes its debut at Stockwell Playhouse, London SW8 2JU, from Monday 27 August to Sunday 2 September.

Can an assassin's career end on a dance floor? Set in Argentina, The Peregrine follows Paul (Christopher Sherwood), a political fixer snatched as a child from poverty by his 'svengali' Memo (Sprague Theobald) and groomed in a life of privilege and violence. One step ahead of his own fate, Paul is sent to confront his one-time guide, Theo (Jonathan McGarrity). Sofia (Katie Buchholz) leads Paul into a deadly tango before she offers him a final explanation: "We all come from somewhere. Then we choose." The last word goes to Paul's tailor, Doroteo (Jackson Pentland), who is the only one left to observe the sweep of events that consumes the other characters.

The Peregrine runs from Monday 27 August to Sunday 2 September. To buy tickets (£15; £10 concessions), visit https://the-peregrine.com/ or http://www.stockwellph.com/

Winner of the 2017 Stockwell Playhouse One-Act Festival bursary prize, Philip Holt, playwright, says "Staying at La Porteña, the home of Argentine writer Ricardo Guiraldes in Buenos Aires Province, inspired the original story. Argentine tango became an important part of the action -powerful, expressive and passionate. It seems like a metaphor in the play as Paul learns that the dance of time and memory will define his future."

Tania Foy is the choreographer on the production and will be instructing Christopher Sherwood, Katie Buchholz and Sprague Theobald how to dance an authentic Argentine tango.
