As part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the Stephen Sondheim Society, we will be paying tribute to Mr Sondheim and his genius, with a collection of material which affectionately celebrates and reflects our love for the great man himself in a brand new show GOD, premièring at London Theatre Workshop for only 6 performances this July. With tongue very firmly in cheek, there will be gentle parodies that serve to demonstrate his art, together with songs that remind us why we all love Sondheim PLUS brand new compositions inspired by Sondheim and written by some of the most exciting UK New Musical Theatre composers.

The creative team for the show are the combined talents of Sondheim aficionados: Director - Alastair Knights and Musical Director - Alex Parker, who recently had great success with 'Putting It Together' at St James Theatre, London.

The cast features previous Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year Contestants including winners Corrine Priest (2014), Kris Olsen (2012) and finalists Emma Odell (2009) and Jay Worley (2014). Material will be featured from writers such as Jonathan Larson, Michael Bruce & John Buchino- but will also reflect Sondheim's great support for new Musical Theatre writing with new commissions from Eamon O'Dwyer, Theo Jamieson & Matt Board - all finalists in this year's Best New Song Prize awarded by Stiles and Drewe at the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year. Alex Parker will also write a song exclusively for the show.

Director Alastair Knights promises: 'A night of affectionate celebration of the much loved and lauded genius that is Stephen Sondheim. You will laugh and cry - but above all you will remember why you love Sondheim's work and why he has achieved such a level of critical acclaim and reverence. I am thrilled to be directing this show as part of the Sondheim Society's 20th Anniversary. I cannot think of a better way to honour the great man himself than by reflecting on his career and celebrating how his work continues to inspire a future generation of Musical Theatre artists'

Performances will be from tonight, July 8th-Saturday July 12th at the London Theatre Workshop (65 New Kings Road, London SW6 4SG). Tuesday through Friday (7.30pm) and Saturday (2.30pm and 7.30*pm).
