'Stage' Survey Reports Sexual Harassment and Bullying In UK Theatre Image

A survey by The Stage has reported that one in three theatre professionals and students has experienced sexual harassment, and 43% have been bullied. Almost 8% of those who responded to the poll reported a sexual assault at work.

Some respondents described bullying as "endemic", and felt it wasn't possible to report the experience. Backstage and technical workers, and those working on a freelance basis, were more likely to be affected.

On the student side, 36% of those polled cited bullying, and one in five sexual harassment.

Around 67% of victims did not report the harassment or bullying. Of those who did, 70% saw no action taken.

The industry publication polled 1,050 people, including performers, creatives, backstage workers, front of house staff and management.
