Southwark Playhouse Young Company will take over The Little at Southwark Playhouse for 4 days this April to showcase two performances. The 14-18 group will perform Remote by Stef Smith whilst the 19-25 group will present There is a War by Tom Basden. Both plays are performed by a cast of over twenty-five members of the Young Company - Southwark Playhouse's dynamic in-house theatre company for young people aged 14 - 25 that offers local young people and emerging artists the opportunity to perform at one of London's leading Off West End venues.
REMOTE
'No one cares enough to see what it's really like. How hard everything is. Because it's hard. It's hard knowing that you can't fix anything. You can't do nothing about anything. It's hard. And no one cares.'
Antler steps out of her front door and throws her phone to the ground. She stamps on it. Then she climbs the tallest tree in the park. She doesn't want to be found, not by anyone. Over the course of one autumnal evening, seven teenagers' lives intertwine as they make their way through the park. And everything that seemed normal becomes extraordinary.
Southwark Playhouse 14 - 18 Young Company present a play about protest, power and protecting yourself.
THERE IS A WAR
'Don't you dare kill me! I am just trying to help. If you kill me, I'll be f-ing furious.'
As soldiers, priests and light entertainers roam a battle-scorched landscape, young medical officer Anne, desperately trying to reach a front-line hospital, finds herself abandoned and useless. The war is raging between the almost indistinguishable Blues and Grays, but no one seems to be able to agree on the reason why they're fighting...
Southwark Playhouse 19 - 25 Young Company present a biting black comedy exploring the mad savagery of war.
Both productions are presented by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
