The Guardian is reporting that The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) is opening up Laurence Olivier awards judging to the public. SOLT is now accepting applications for ten judging positions in different awards categories for the 2010 awards. The judges in each awards category will be divided up equally between theater professionals and theater patrons.
"Entrants must be over 18, live within easy access of London and be able to display a wide theatrical knowledge. They must also write a 150 word review of a recent production when applying. The chosen few will enjoy free tickets throughout 2009," describes The Guardian of the qualifications.
Each year the SOLT opens up the panel to members of the public who aren't critics but work "in and around the industry". The 2009 public panel includes a journalist, a casting director and an arts consultant
Next year's Olivier awards will be announced in March of 2009. The application for the Olivier 2010 panel is November 28, 2008. For more information on the Laurence Olivier Awards please visit http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/awards/
