Shane Richie yesterday confirmed that he will host a charity concert in aid of the Baby Loss Awareness Campaign. To mark Worldwide Pregnancy and Baby Loss Remembrance Day on Thursday 15th October, actor Stefan Booth (Hollyoaks, The Bill and Dancing on Ice), up and coming band Oswald, actor/singer Michael McKell (BBC'S Doctors) and West End & Broadway leading man Tim Howar will perform a dazzling evening cabaret at The Leicester Square Theatre at 6.45pm. They will be supported by a host of other talented West End performers.
The Baby Loss Awareness Campaign exists to promote October 15th as National Baby Loss Awareness Day within the UK, to promote the annual "Global Wave of Light" events and services where parents can acknowledge their losses and to highlight awareness and understanding of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss among health and social care workers and the community at large.
THE BABY LOSS AWARENESS WEEK BENEFIT CONCERT will start with a candle lighting ceremony to contribute to the Global Wave of Light in memory of people's losses and will be followed by an evening of song. Some of the songs have been written by the brilliant singer song writers performing and others will be familiar tunes arranged especially for the occasion. It will be an evening to acknowledge loss, look forward to the future and have a good laugh.
Influenced by artists including David Bowie, Simple Minds and Muse, Oswald are comparable to the likes of U2 and Coldplay with anthemic melodies and catchy indie pop lyrics, songs such as 'Home' and 'Flying To The Ground' are firm favourites. They will be singing 'Little Soul' at the concert. 'Little Soul' is a stand out track, written by Tom after his wife suffered a miscarriage.
"I wrote 'Little Soul' hours after my wife and I lost our baby. Music is an escape for me and I just wanted to get my feelings out. Writing 'Little Soul' was like a release valve in order to cope with the pain and our tragic loss."
To raise the awareness of this often-taboo subject, Tom and R&R Music have donated 'Little Soul' to charities that support child loss, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the charity.
Michael McKell began his career as a singer songwriter with recording deals with Phonogram, EMI and Warner Brothers. More recently he has starred in the West End production of Tonight's the Night and is best know for his role as Nick West in BBC's Doctors. Michael and his partner have also suffered losses, losing pregnancies at 13 weeks, 8 weeks and the twin of their daughter at 13 weeks.
