Roger Allam has been awarded Best Actor at the 2011 Olivier Awards for his portrayal of the fat knight, Sir John Falstaff, in Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 at Shakespeare's Globe. This is Roger's third Olivier to date and he collected his award at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on Sunday 13 March. Directed by the Globe's Artistic Director, Dominic Dromgoole, the production delighted audiences during the 2010 theatre season and was extended by an extra eight performances to meet audience demand.
Both Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 were filmed in high definition, and in partnership with Arts Alliance Media these productions will appear in cinemas across the world later this year. Speaking about Roger's win, Dominic Dromgoole commented ‘We are delighted that the Olivier Award panel has recognised the scale of Roger's achievement.'Three-times Olivier Award winner Roger Allam is an established RSC and National Theatre actor and recently co starred with Gemma Arterton in Stephen Frears' film Tamara Drewe. Roger created the role of Javert in the original production of Les Misérables and won the 2002 Olivier Award for Best Actor in Privates on Parade at the Donmar Warehouse.
