Sell a Door Theatre Company presents Kidnapped based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson and adapted by Ivan Wilkinson, performing at Carriageworks Theatre on Thursday 13 February 2014.
An adventure tale for all the family, Kidnapped tells the story of Davie Balfour as he survives shipwreck and attempted murder to dramatically escape to the Highlands of Scotland.
"If life were easy, where would all the adventures be...?"
Kidnapped is a tale of friendship in the most unlikely of circumstances and the courage that it can inspire. Now in his later years, David Balfour tells his own children of his early adventures. Tricked by his miserly uncle, David is plunged into a world of strange and unsavoury characters, shipwrecks and sword fights, mystery and peril. Saved only by the friendship of Alan Breck; a man who should be his sworn enemy, David gains the strength to take control of his own destiny.
Set against the fierce social and political backdrop of the aftermath of the Jacobite Uprising of 1745, this gripping, fast paced adventure story is packed full of swashbuckling sword fights, larger than life puppets, wild storms and shipwreck presented with highly skilled physical storytelling and imagination.
Adapted by emerging playwright Ivan Wilkinson as the first of a trilogy of Stevenson works brought to life on stage, Sell a Door Theatre Company launch their 2014 season with this highly imaginative re-telling of the classic story. Ideal for family audiences aged 6+
