Following his masterclass in London, composer Scott Alan invited one of his students, Jennifer Owen, to perform alongside him and Cynthia Erivo at St. James Studio. Check out her performance below!

Per Alan:

"After an emotional masterclass on May 6th with a group of incredible artists, I invited one of my students to take the stage at my evening concert with Cynthia Erivo at the St. James Studio in London, UK. This was not planned. I just knew that the world needed to hear Jennifer's story. So many are living in her reality and are in need of understanding that they are not alone in this world.

Jennifer was unaware that she would be singing until the very moment I called her name. Cynthia and I had discussed the possibility during intermission but it wasn't until I asked Jennifer to join us that the final decision was truly made. Let it be said - I was genuinely concerned that asking her to take the stage would be forcing someone into a situation that they may not be able to handle. My student's are my responsibility and it is my job to protect them. But, Jennifer was the first student I've ever had where I didn't need to work with them on emotionally connecting to their lyric. The moment she began to sing that morning in our class you felt the pain she was living inside. That is what a great artist does. Brings their story into the song to allow it to be a form of therapy. I also saw how hopeful she became after she sang the song in class and how her energy shifted after being praised by her fellow students. I knew that she needed this moment in the same way those in the audience needed to hear it.

Let this video serve as proof. Life IS still worth holding on to. If only for these exciting and rare opportunities that you'd never knew existed if you weren't still around to see them come to life. I hope this performance and this song brings great comfort to those suffering with depression."
