SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE Extends Run Thru 8/12, Melanie La Barrie Joins Cast

The Landor Theatre's acclaimed production of ‘Smokey Joe's Cafe' is to extend its record-breaking run by three weeks. The first major production of the musical since its West?End run at the?Prince of Wales Theatre in 1996, will now play until Sunday September 12. It had been booking to August 12.

Melanie La Barrie has now joined the cast, replacing 80s disco diva Kym Mazelle, who left on Sunday July 25, as advertised, due to prior work commitments in the USA. The cast also includes ‘Over the Rainbow' semi-finalist Steph Fearon.

The result is truly a revue for today.

With a cast of major West End stars - Clare Burt, Michael Cahill, Ria Jones and Glyn Kerslake - CLOSER?THAN?EVER promises to be one of the most exciting musical theatre events of the year.

CLOSER?THAN?EVER will run at the Landor Theatre from Tuesday 14 September to Saturday 9 October. Press night is Wednesday 15 September.

CLOSER?THAN?EVER won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical and Maltby and Shire both received Drama Desk Award nominations.

CLARE?BURT:?Her roles include Mrs Milcote in 'Coram Boy' and Mrs Shehan in 'The Miracle', both at the National Theatre; The Witch in 'Into the Woods', Carla in the David Leveaux production of 'Nine' and Susan in Sam Mendes' 'Company', all at the Donmar Warehouse. Clare has just returned from New York, where she performed her sell-out show 'Now You Know'.

MICHAEL?CAHILL:?He played the title role in ‘Martin Guerre'; Enjolras in ‘Les Miserables'; ‘Hello Again'; ‘Masterpieces'; ‘There's Always a Woman'; and most recently, ‘Stepping?Out' for Derby Playhouse and ‘A Month in the?Country for Salisbury?Playhouse.

RIA?JONES: Ria's career spans over 26 years, most of these as a West End leading lady. Her musical credits include Alex in ‘The Witches of Eastwick'; Mrs Overall in ‘Acorn Antiques' (directed by Victoria Wood); Reno in ‘Anything Goes'; Liz in ‘High Society'; Grizabella in ‘Cats'; Svetlana in ‘Chess', Eva Peron in ‘Evita'; Fantine in ‘Les Miserables'; and Narrator in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'. She also appeared in ‘Nine' at the Donmar Warehouse.

GLYN?KERSLAKE:?Has over 20 years experience as an actor and musician. His theatre credits include the role of Bob Cratchit in 'Scrooge' (London Palladium); The Phantom in 'The Phantom of the Opera' (Her Majesty's Theatre); Arnaud du Thil in 'Martin Guerre' (Prince Edward); Enjolras in 'Les Misérables' (Palace); Joe Gillis in 'Sunset Boulevard' (Adelphi Theatre); Original cast and subsequent alternate Chris in 'Miss Saigon' (Theatre Royal). Most recently he played John Wilkes Booth in 'Assasins' (Union Theatre).
