Sir Damon Buffini, Chair of the Board, today announced that Director Rufus Norris and Executive Director Lisa Burger will become Joint Chief Executives of the National Theatre. They will retain their respective titles of Director and Executive Director while sharing this responsibility.

Speaking about the news Damon Buffini said, "I am extremely pleased today to confirm that Rufus and Lisa are becoming Joint Chief Executives of the National Theatre, a small but important change that acknowledges how they work together in leading the organisation. The strength of their partnership places the NT in a fantastic position as we look to the future, and the reach and impact of the National Theatre continues to increase across the UK and around the world. I am delighted to see them collaborating so effectively to realise the NT's mission."

Director Rufus Norris also commented, "It makes complete sense to formally recognise the way that Lisa and I have come to work together. We have a clear, shared vision for the theatre, which will see it being more national, more representative and more resonant than ever. Our continuing partnership will be essential in realising all of that and more."

Executive Director Lisa Burger added, "Our most ambitious projects at the National require close collaboration between me and Rufus, whether that is creating shows at the South Bank, developing sustained relationships with theatres across the country or producing shows internationally. Our working relationship over the past four years has been extremely rewarding and I look forward to delivering our vision for the National Theatre in the years to come."
