Royal & Derngate won prizes in three categories at the annual Theatrical Management Association Awards on 1 November, making them the joint biggest winners of the night. The prizes awarded were for Best Performance in a Play going to Anna Francolini for THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, Best Touring Production for BRIEF ENCOUNTER; a Royal & Derngate co-production with David Pugh, Dafydd Rogers, Cineworld and The Kneehigh Theatre and finally Best Director for OTHELLO (directors Stephen Hoggett and Scott Graham) created by Royal & Derngate in collaboration with Frantic Assembly and Theatre Royal Plymouth.

The winners of the 2009 TMA Theatre Awards were announced on Sunday 1 November at a ceremony, hosted by actress Nichola McAuliffe, at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith

This recognition from the TMA comes at a time when Royal & Derngate is garnering critical acclaim for its YOUNG AMERICA season; a pairing of two rarely performed masterpieces by Eugene O'Neill and Tennessee Williams. The plays have been awarded five stars from the Times and Telegraph and four stars from the Guardian.

Laurie Sansom, artistic director at Royal & Derngate said: "We are delighted to receive these awards from the TMA. It's a great source of inspiration for everyone involved at the theatre and going forward into 2010."
