Rose Bruford College Ranked World's Top Drama School For Student Mobility Image

Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance has been ranked as the top drama school in the world and one of only two creative arts specialist higher education institutions in the top 25 globally ranked universities for student mobility.

The ranking of 1,614 universities from 95 countries, by U-Multirank, takes into account having an international student body and offering students the opportunity to study part of their degree programme abroad as an indication of the international orientation of a university.

The College is renowned for being London's international drama school. In the 2017/2018 academic year, 130 students recorded their domicile as other than the UK across 36 separate countries.

The BA (Hons) American Theatre Arts and BA (Hons) European Theatre Arts programmes are the only theatre and performance programmes of their kind to offer students the opportunity to spend a semester or term training at partner institutions in the USA and Europe respectively.

The College also actively encourages all other undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply to undertake a study mobility or traineeship within Europe. In the 2017/2018 academic year, 31% of all full-time final-year undergraduate students have either been on an American exchange or on mobility under Erasmus+.

Erasmus+ Academic Co-ordinator, Thomas Wilson, believes such international partnerships provide students with a unique edge in their training:

"Our high-ranking reflects the dynamic, outward-looking and adventurous spirit of our students, who see their future as theatre and performance-makers not just in the UK but in Europe and beyond. Whether through studying abroad with one of our international partners or brokering an individual bespoke traineeship with a company, the professional and personal experiences that international mobility offers our students is invaluable in accelerating their training and personal development."

Since receiving Taught Degree Awarding Powers in 2017, the College also has a growing portfolio of postgraduate programmes including the recently validated MA/MFA in International Theatre Practice and Performance run in partnership with National Theater Institute in Connecticut. From September 2018, students on the three-year programme will experience training in the UK, USA and Russia at the prestigious Moscow Art Theatre School.

Other student mobility opportunities provided by the College include the School of Design, Management and Technical Arts semester abroad programme designed for students from outside the UK and European Union.

Rose Bruford College Principal, Clarie Middleton, believes the range of global opportunities offered by the College is vital for the professional development of students and enhances their employment prospects:

"International mobility is a brilliant way to develop students' deeper cultural awareness, develop their individual artistic careers, and provide them with valuable international contacts; and we wouldn't be able to do it without our valued international partners and collaborators.

Integrating visiting students and practitioners from across Europe and the USA into our own degree programmes further strengthens the training we offer, as well as enriching all of our students' time at Rose Bruford College.

It is particularly pleasing for a creative higher education institution like Rose Bruford College to be so highly ranked in a list historically dominated by business, financial and economic specialist institutions."
