The high-profile West End production of Arthur Miller's Resurrection Blues, helmed by film director Robert Altman and featuring an array of stars, will close early.
Closing was originally announced for April 22nd, but the limited-run play will now shutter a week early on April 15th. Despite the stature of its legendary late playwright and of Altman (M.A.S.H., Nashville, Gosford Park), the play received negative reviews from the West End critics upon opening on March 2nd.The play features Neve Campbell, Tony Award-winner Jane Adams, Peter McDonald, Matthew Modine, Oscar-winner Maximillian Schell, and John Wood.
"High
in the mountains of a South American banana republic, a revolution is
brewing. When the rebels' messiah - like leader is captured, a New York
production company swoops in to televise his execution - death by
crucifixion - and an explosive chain of events ensues. Humorous, poetic
and thought provoking, Resurrection Blues
brilliantly satirises
misguided global politics and the predatory nature of a media saturated
culture," according to press notes for the play, which was completed a
month before the legendary playwright's death on February 10th, 2005. Resurrection Blues is presented in its London premiere.
