Folie à Deux Productions in association with seeitinyourhead will present SUMMER AND SMOKE by Tennessee Williams, directed by Rebecca Frecknall at The Vault, Southwark Playhouse, on the 13 – 30th of June, 2012.

In Glorious Hill, Mississippi, Alma Winemiller has found herself trapped in the role of repressed and 'affected' daughter of the town minister. Hemmed in by her malicious mother, neighbourhood gossips and her own moral standings, Alma longs to escape her life of duty. But on the 4th July 1916 her world is to be turned upside down by the return of her childhood obsession, the young doctor Buchanan, who represents everything Alma is against – and everything she desires.

Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) was one of the world's most celebrated playwrights, and the winner of numerous awards including two Pulitzer Prizes and four New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards. Born in Columbus, Mississippi, his works include The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Rose Tattoo, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Not About Nightingales, Suddenly Last Summer, Camino Real, Lovely and Misfit and The Night of the Iguana.

Director Rebecca Frecknall trained at Goldsmiths and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She was Jerwood Assistant Director at the Young Vic on Natalie Abrahami's recent production of After Miss Julie before assisting Rupert Goold on his adaptation of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (Kensington Gardens). Recent credits include An Anthology of Images (HighTide) and Knots (King's Head Theatre).

Casting and further creative details are to be announced.

Performances are Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm with Saturday matinees at 3.00pm.
Tickets are available from www.southwarkplayhouse.co.uk or 020 7407 0234 for £9, £13, £17. Concessions available.
