The stage version of THE EXORCIST, which first debuted at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles in 2012, is making its UK debut just in time for Halloween.
This adaptation of the classic novel and legendary film that terrified a whole generation will be brought to life, running tonight 21 October - 5 November 2016, at Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Sean Mathias directs, with designs by Anna Fleischle and lighting by Tim Mitchell. The play is written by John Pielmeier, adapted from the novel by William Peter Blatty. Ben Sprecher, behind Broadway's scandal-ridden REBECCA, is producing the project.
Also on the creative team are composer and Sound Designer Adam Cork, video and projection designer Duncan McLean, illusion designer Ben Hart, fight director Bret Yount and assistant director Priya Dosanjh.
The cast features Peter Bowles as Father Merrin, Todd Boyce as Doctor Strong, Clare Louise Connolly as Regan, Adam Garcia as Father Damien Karras, Mitchell Mullen as Doctor Klein, Jenny Seagrove as Chris, Joseph Wilkins as Father Joe, and Tristram Wymark as Burke.
The play's official description reads: "There's something wrong with Regan. But don't worry, she's not alone...When the medical profession fails to provide answers to young Regan's strange symptoms her desperate mother Chris turns to a local priest for help. But before Father Damian can tackle what's before him, he must overcome his own shaken beliefs, as this fight is for more than just one girl's soul...Inspired by true events, the two time Oscar-winning film version of this story has terrified generations the world over since its release in 1973. Now this brand new stage production of The Exorcist is unleashed for the very first time in a uniquely theatrical experience."
