The cast is lead by Luke Treadaway who re-creates his performance as Christopher Boone, the fifteen-year old maths genius with behavioural problems, with Niamh Cusack once again playing his teacher, Siobhan. They are joined by Holly Aird (Judy), Sophie Duval (Mrs Shears), Johnny Gibbon (alternate Christopher), Seán Gleeson (Ed), Nick Sidi (Roger) Tilly Tremayne (Mrs Alexander). Matthew Barker, Rhiannon Harper-Rafferty and Howard Ward make up the ensemble.
Christopher, fifteen years old, stands beside Mrs Shears' dead dog. It has been speared with a garden fork, it is seven minutes after midnight and Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in a book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington. He has an extraordinary brain, exceptional at maths while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is based on Mark Haddon's award-winning novel, adapted by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott. It had a sell-out run at the National's Cottesloe Theatre and set a new record with its NT Live broadcast to worldwide cinemas, being seen by over 40,000 people in the UK alone.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is designed by Bunny Christie, with lighting by Paule Constable, video design by Finn Ross, movement by Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett for Frantic Assembly, music by Adrian Sutton and sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.
The production runs through 31 August 2013 at the Apollo Theatre, 31 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, W1D 7EZ, with performances Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 7.30pm and Tuesdays at 7pm, as well as Thursday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm.
