RICHARD II reimagined as a Westminster power struggle was staged in the House of Commons last night on the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. It was the first-ever performance of a Shakespeare play in the Palace of Westminster, and celebrated four centuries of the writer at the centre of Britain's national culture, in the centre of its national politics. BroadwayWorld has an inside look at the production - check out the photos below!
Tim Delap was Richard, the charismatic leader who faces a challenge from Harri Bolingbroke (Hermione Gulliford), reimagined in this new version as a female Leader of the Opposition.
8,500 people applied for one of the 100 golden tickets.
RICHARD II now transfers from Westminster to the East End on Tuesday 3 May, with a week-long run at Arcola Theatre.
Richard II is produced by Dippermouth and Hartshorn - Hook Productions in association with Arcola Theatre and Arts Theatre West End.
