In an innovative twist on the typical cabaret show, a company of 6 actors perform a programme of new writing from Martha Pothen peppered with favourites from the musical theatre canon in an acerbic examination of our relationship with technology and social media.
Directed by Andy Bewley (recently AD Blue Heart Orange Tree and Tobacco Factory) in a mock Victorian theatre, originally built as a film set within Sands Films Studio - an independent film production facility operating in an C18 listed building in Rotherhithe since 1975 (The Children's Midsummer Night's Dream, Little Dorrit, The Good Soldier Schwejk).
#blessed - a spoken word cabaret features an eclectic mix of musical theatre, from Sondheim's 'Not A Day Goes By' to 'Waving Through a Window' from hit broadway musical, Dear Evan Hansen. These act as a counterpoint to Martha Pothen's original poetry and scenes exploring tinder romances, real-life isolation, instagram obsessions and much more.
Featuring performances from Niall Docherty (The Alienist, Paramount/Netflix), Conor McFarlane (Assassins, Pleasance), Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong (Son of a Preacher Man, UK & Ireland Tour), Tom Gadie (Something Special, CBeebies), Charlotte George (Love's Labour's Lost, Hackney Empire) and writer Martha Pothen (Privates on Parade, Union Theatre). Musical Direction by Matt Spalding (Parade, Pleasance).
