Jeremy Herrin, Headlong's Artistic Director, returns to the National Theatre to direct D C Moore's dark and funny new play, Common, an epic tale of unsavoury action and England's lost land with Anne-Marie Duff as Mary and Cush Jumbo as Laura. Scroll down for a first look at the cast in action below!
Mary's the best liar, rogue, thief and faker in this whole septic isle. And she's back. As the factory smoke of the industrial revolution belches out from the cities, Mary is swept up in the battle of her former home. The commonland, belonging to all, is disappearing.
Speaking about the play Jeremy Herrin said, "I think Common is a remarkably ambitious play and fitting for Headlong's latest collaboration with the National Theatre. It is a theatrically playful work, funny and alive, full of incredibly visceral language. It speaks about a time long ago but also how we live now and who owns the land."
The full cast includes Ian-Lloyd Anderson, Lois Chimimba, Peta Cornish, Anna Crichlow, John Dagleish, Brian Doherty, Amy Downham,Anne-Marie Duff, Trevor Fox, Hannah Hutch, Cush Jumbo, Tim McMullan, John O'Dowd, Ian Shaw and Edward Wolstenholme.
Design is by Richard Hudson, lighting design by Paule Constable, music by Stephen Warbeck and sound design by Ian Dickinson.
Previews from 30 May. Press Night 6 June. In repertoire until 5 August.
