This exuberant show-within-a-show throws together gun-toting gangsters, sparring actors and romantic entanglements against a backdrop of a touring musical production of The Taming of the Shrew. With music and lyrics by Cole Porter the terrific score is shot through with wit, charm and energy with spectacular choreography by Stephen Mear (Crazy For You, Betty Blue Eyes, Hello Dolly and Mary Poppins).
Trevor Nunn returns to The Old Vic following the success of Inherit the Wind,Richard II and Hamlet. He was the Artistic Director of the RSC and The National Theatre and has directed in the West End, on Broadway and for film and television. He has directed most of the Shakespeare canon, and other credits include Flare Path,A Little Night Music, Porgy and Bess, Anything Goes, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma!, LES MISERABLES and Cats.
