Richard Alston choreographed his first work in 1968. Now, 50 years and over 140 dance works later, he celebrates this landmark with Mid Century Modern, which draws on the span of his work.
BroadwayWorld has an exclusive look below!
Taking a journey through each decade of Richard Alston's career, the piece features sections from Rainbow Bandit, Dutiful Ducks, Signal of a Shake, Proverb, Gypsy Mixture and Syrinx, a brand new solo for BBC Young Dancer finalist Vidya Patel.
Alston's newest piece is set to Schumann's work for piano, Carnaval, inspired by the composer's complicated personality. Carnaval is played live by pianist Jason Ridgway. With costumes by Alston's previous collaborator, BAFTA Award-winning designer Fotini Dimou.
Martin Lawrance's brand new work for the whole company Cut and Run is a fast moving maze of movement to a dark driving score, conjuring a world of shadows and swift changes.
After Sadler's Wells sell out performances Mid Century Modern will continue the UK tour
