New artistic director Emma Rice has made a statement of intent with a major piece of casting at her inaugural Globe Wonder Season. Performance artist Meow Meow will debut as Titania in opening production A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM this April, which Rice directs.
Meow Meow previously worked with Rice on her Kneehigh production of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg in 2011, but is best known for her unique cabaret performances. She is joined in A Midsummer Night's Dream by Katy Owen as Puck and Evan Wardrop as Bottom, with other cast members including Anjana Vasan, Nandi Bhebhe, Ankur Bahl, Ncuti Gatwa, Edmund Derrington and Lucy Thackeray. Tanika Gupta will act as dramaturg for the production.
The Globe also announced that Tara Fitzgerald and Ray Fearon will lead MACBETH, directed by Iqbal Khan later in the summer. Other productions in the Wonder Season include Imogen, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice and 946 - The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips.
A Midsummer Night's Dream runs April 30-September 11, and Macbeth is June 18-October 1. Booking is now open.
