Today, 9 July, Paul Bigley (Man) joins other cast members Andrew Alexander (Richard Hannay), Catherine Bailey (Pamela/Annabella/Margaret) and Stephen Critchlow (Man) in the hilarious, multi award-winning comedy, The 39 Steps.
The hit show, approaching its sixth birthday in the West End, is based on John Buchan’s 1914 spy thriller The Thirty Nine Steps and was adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow (Desmond Oliver Dingle/The National Theatre of Brent). The 39 Steps is directed by Maria Aitken, with design by Peter McKintosh, lighting by Ian Scott, sound by Mic Pool and movement by Toby Sedgwick. The 39 Steps is presented by Edward Snape for Fiery Angel and Tricycle London Productions with the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
Paul Bigley’s stage credits include The Lady In The Van at Bath Theatre Royal, Breaking the Code at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, One Way Pendulum at The Old Vic, The Madness of George Dubya at the Arts Theatre and Much Ado About Nothing at the Royal Exchange, Manchester. Paul’s screen credits include The Hour, Hustle, Vanity Fair, Shackleton, Midsomer Murders, Shakespeare In Love and Martha Meet Frank.
The 39 Steps is an international hit, having now played in countries including Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Spain, South Africa, South America and Turkey. The production has also run on Broadway and toured North America. The 39 Steps has won many awards including an Olivier and Whatonstage.com for Best Comedy, two Tony Awards for Best Lighting and Best Sound Design, two Drama Desk Awards for Unique Theatrical Experience and Outstanding Lighting and the Molière award for Best Comedy.
