Today The Old Vic and PwC announce the renewal of PwC's support of the 200-year-old theatre and the PwC £10 Previews scheme until the end of Season 4 in August 2019.
The Old Vic is London's independent not-for-profit theatre which, despite receiving no regular public subsidy, strives to make the work on stage accessible to all. PwC £10 Previews are integral to this and through this uniquely open-access scheme, a new generation of theatre-goers continue to be inspired.
The Old Vic and PwC together believe that the arts are not a luxury, but essential in building thriving, vibrant communities. Since PwC and The Old Vic began working together in 2012, the collaboration has provided an unintimidating and accessible way into theatre, allowing a broader and more diverse range of people to come together to experience the social and cultural benefits that it offers.
The partnership was launched in 2015, by the then new Artistic Director Matthew Warchus in celebration of his mission to open up the work of The Old Vic with as wide an audience as possible. Under the PwC £10 Previews scheme, at least half of the auditorium is offered at just £10 for the first five previews of each Old Vic production, and these tickets are available to anyone. This initiative reflects The Old Vic and PwC's continued shared aspiration to inspire a new audience from wide-ranging backgrounds.
Since the beginning of Matthew's tenure and thanks to the PwC £10 Previews, over 37,000 people have enjoyed world-class theatre for just £10, with 37% of bookers coming through The Old Vic's doors for the very first time. The scheme gives everyone the opportunity to see critically acclaimed shows such as A Christmas Carol, starring Rhys Ifans and running until 20 January; and the 2017 productions of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, starring Joshua McGuire and Daniel Radcliffe and Girl from the North Country with music and lyrics by Bob Dylan, for just £10. These productions are just three examples of those that achieved almost 100% take-up of PwC £10 Previews tickets available, proving the success of the scheme and the growing appetite for experiencing live theatre.
Of the scheme, Matthew Warchus said 'PwC £10 Previews have proved enormously popular not only with audiences but also with performers and creative teams. They've without question created a new environment characterised by vibrancy and enthusiasm at the launch of a new production and I'm genuinely thrilled that PwC and The Old Vic will be continuing to work together promoting accessibility to theatre.'
Kevin Ellis, chairman and senior partner at PwC, said: 'As someone who really enjoys the theatre, I want to make sure that everyone has the same opportunity to experience The Old Vic's productions. Working with The Old Vic, the PwC £10 Previews tickets have already opened the doors to thousands of new theatregoers and we hope to continue making theatre more accessible to people through this initiative.'
In May this year, The Old Vic will celebrate 200 years of being an iconic, adventurous and youthful hub of creativity with a vibrant future ahead. The Bicentenary Season is comprised entirely of world premiere productions with PwC £10 Previews tickets available for:
