While The Phantom of the Opera is the longest-running Broadway musical of all time, it has to settle for the number two spot on the West End, where it is bested by almost exactly one year for the top long-run trophy - but, it still deserves a party in honor of its 27th birthday!
Just yesterday, BroadwayWorld shared a look at the festivities surrounding the 28th anniversary of long-run champ LES MISERABLES and the party attended by producer Cameron Mackintosh, Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil - available here - and today we have a particularly phan-tastic follow-up!
Lyricist Charles Hart and choreographer Gillian Lynne were on hand to cut the cake at the party to honor 27 years of the chandelier crashing at Her Majesty's Theatre in the West End earlier this week and a couple candid shots of the event are now available to peruse.
Of course, The Phantom of the Opera opened at Her Majesty's Theatre on October 9, 1986, prior to opening on Broadway in 1988, where it still plays.
