Overtures Piano Bar - London's only sing-along piano bar dedicated to musical theatre - is travelling from its home in Marble Arch to Liverpool Street for a one-off celebration at Bishopsgate Institute. Accompanied by the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, and conducted by Freddie Tapner (Wicked, Victoria Apollo Theatre; Jersey Boys, UK Tour; Mack and Mabel, Hackney Empire), it is guaranteed to be a riotous evening, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds and, most importantly, all singing levels.
For one night only, guests will be able to sing along to their favourite musical theatre songs in this exciting celebration of musical theatre. The evening, hosted by Paul Branch and Maureen Rejali - the presenters of London's much-loved, award-winning musical theatre radio show, Sunday Show Tunes - will be unplugged and spontaneous with just the crowd, the orchestra and the show tunes.
This riotous communal sing-along night will feature songs from musicals, ranging from popular classics such as Les Misérables and Wicked to the much-loved musicals of Stephen Sondheim and everything in between.
Managing Director of OVERTURES Piano Bar Ray Rackham comments, We opened our doors to our home at Marble Arch in January, and I have been astounded by the appetite for a dedicated, musical theatre sing-along bar. Nights at OVERTURES are like no other; as soon as the pianist starts playing everyone in the bar joins in. Now it is time to step it up a notch, and I am delighted that Freddie Tapner of the LMTO and the fantastic team at Bishopsgate Institute have welcomed us for this orchestral evening of OVERTURES magic. Come along and join in the fun in one of London's most beautiful buildings, and with the world's best musical theatre orchestra providing the soundtrack it is going to be a night everyone will remember.
Chief Executive and Artistic Director of Bishopsgate Institute Francesca Canty adds, We're delighted that our partnership with the LMTO is developing even further, after last year's collaboration to stage a concert of Girlfriends and the monthly play-throughs, and that our own critically-acclaimed musical theatre programme that began in 2016 with Ragtime, and continued last year with West Side Story, can expand and welcome even more people to share their love of musical theatre, OVERTURES style. Meanwhile, Myra The Steinway is very excited to let her hair down for this extravaganza as part of her favourite orchestra, so stand by for a very special evening.
