The new cast of Nicholas Hytner's production of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS will begin previews tonight at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Joining Owain Arthur as lovable chancer Francis Henshall are Jodie Prenger and Hannah Spearritt who play Dolly and Pauline respectively. Martin Barrass joins the cast to play Alfie with David Benson as Gareth, Nigel Betts as Harry, Derek Elroy as Lloyd, Gerard Horan as Charlie, Daniel Ings as Alan, Ben Mansfield as Stanley and Gemma Whelan as Rachel.
With songs by Grant Olding, ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS' physical comedy director is Cal McCrystal, designs are by Mark Thompson, with lighting by Mark Henderson, sound design by Paul Arditti, fight direction by Kate Waters and choreography by Adam Penford.
Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe… but Roscoe is really Rachel, posing as her own dead brother… who's been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and take a job with one Stanley Stubbers. To prevent discovery Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple.
Richard Bean's award-wining adaptation, based on Carlo Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters, opened at The National Theatre in May 2011. In November last year, after a UK tour, One Man, Two Guvnors opened in the West End at the Adelphi Theatre where it completed a sell out run last month.
A Broadway production of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS will open at the Music Box Theatre on 18 April 2012.
