Ten years after he launched his drum ensemble Extreme Rhythm on the stage of the original Theatre Royal, Nicky Bailey has returned home with his ten-strong group for the world premiere of Primal at the Wexford Opera House on Thursday, December 2 at 8pm.
The world-class percussionists will perform alongside three tap dancers and a live band in what promises to be an adrenaline-fuelled production featuring stunning choreography and mesmerising rhythms. It is also a fitting tribute to Extreme Rhythm's journey over the past decade. In that time, the dynamic ensemble have toured with Riverdance The Show and Destiny's Child, among others. They also opened the U.S. Formula 1 Grand Prix (1996). Most recently, they finished shooting on the forthcoming TV series Camelot, which is from the same team as hit show The Tudors.
Wexford Opera House was the natural choice for Nicky Bailey as he grew up on High Street next to the old Theatre Royal and now his old home is part of the award-winning Wexford Opera House!
When it came to unveiling his dynamic new show comprising fellow Wexford percussionists David Rossiter, Jim and Ian Bergin, Kenny Doyle, David Hamilton and Alan Lynch, Nicky said: ‘We are very proud of this show and even more proud to be staging the world premiere of it in our very own home town of Wexford.'
While the members of Extreme Rhythm are all native to the county, Primal is international in scope, blending diverse rhythms and instruments from around the world to create an entertainment spectacular. Nicky continues: ‘It's Primal because the content of the show plays on the internal rhythm that every person has in their body. Even those who think they have no rhythm, come to this show and try not to feel the infectious grooves.'
