It Had To Be You, the classic Broadway comedy by Renée Taylor and Joseph Bologna, will be at the New End Theatre from Tuesday 23 November for a five-week season to Friday 24 December 2010.

In the cast are Carol Lawson (Theda Blau) and Anthony Green (Vito Pignoli). It is directed by Michael Monks, coached by Ivana Chubbuck, with design by Juliet Shillingford, and lighting by Mark Dymock. It is produced by the Melrose Avenue Theatre Company in association with the New End Theatre.

New York City Christmas Eve - Theda Blau (Carol Lawson) is loveless and jobless. But today she decides to do something about it when producer/director Vito Pignoli (Anthony Green) comes into her life at a Broadway TV commercial audition.

Renée Taylor and Joseph Bologna co-wrote the Broadway hit comedy ‘Lovers and Other Strangers' in 1968 and received Oscar nominations for writing the 1970 film adaptation. They wrote and co-starred in the comedy ‘Made For Each Other' and won Emmys for the TV special ‘Acts of Love and Other Comedies'. They co-starred in the Broadway (1980) and film version of ‘It Had To Be You' (1989).

 

Anthony Green played the lead in Amit Gupta's Award winning film ‘Love Story'.

Early stage roles include as Jimmy Porter ‘In Look Back in Anger' and John Proctor in ‘The Crucible'. He was Baldwin Rawel in Richard Davidson ‘Storybook' which won a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival. His film roles include in ‘The Bourne Identity', ‘Tomorrow Never Dies' and ‘The Honey Trap'. TV roles include in ‘Cadfael' with Derek Jacobi and ‘Where The Heart Is' with Sarah Lancashire.
Carol Lawson has played Beneatha in ‘A Raisin In The Sun' in Chicago and was in ‘Sacrificing Simone' by Alretha Thomas at Stage 52 Los Angeles in 2007. She has performed in many Off Broadway venues. She was in the film ‘Blue' with Don Wallace and Michael Monks.

Michael Monks directed the romantic comedy Siblings in 2009 with Brooke Josephson. Last year he directed The Baby Dance by Jane Anderson in Los Angeles. His extensive film/TV career includes in ‘Harsh Times' with Christian Bale and Eva Longoria, ‘Air Force One' with Harrison Ford, and in James Ellroy's ‘Street Kings' with Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker.

Juliet Shillingford has recently designed ‘The Pillowman', ‘The Lieutenant of Inishmore' and ‘Dolly' for the Curve Leicester. Mark Dymock has been the lighting designer for many New Perspective productions including Michael Morpurgo's ‘Farm Boy' sell out Edinburgh and UK tour and ‘Treasure Island' The Watermill Newbury Christmas production.
