Today, 18 November 2009, Digital Theatre makes available its third high definition downloadable theatre production - Parlour Song.
Parlour Song, Jez Butterworth's sell-out production directed by Ian Rickson, opened at The Almeida Theatre earlier this year with a cast comprising Amanda Drew, Andrew Lincoln and Toby Jones is now downloadable exclusively at www.digitaltheatre.com for £8.99.
Digital Theatre Co-founders Robert Delamere and Tom Shaw said: "One of the creative challenges of filming the Almeida's production of Parlour Song was doing justIce To the beautifully judged performances. The writing, acting and direction are a combined masterclass in black humour, comic timing, and psychological detail. It was a pleasure to take on the challenge of capturing work by artists at the top of their game for the enjoyment of a wider audience."
Ian Rickson, Director, Parlour Song, said: "Digital Theatre's exciting initiative promises to make theatre accessible and immediate. Capturing the alchemy of live performance is an enormous challenge. Digital Theatre set about it with a care and sensitivity that produces excellent results, and hopefully can open up the art form to ever increasing audiences."
Michael Attenborough, Artistic Director, Almeida Theatre, said: "The pleasure of working with Digital Theatre is that they are truly collaborative, it's a proper artistic partnership from start to finish. In the past this kind of work has been vulnerable to artistic and financial abuse, but Digital Theatre are thankfully so open about their process that the results have already progressed and advanced. We are really looking forward to developing our partnership and exploring what promises to be a really exciting future."
Parlour Song is available alongside the Young Vic and Amnesty International's production of The Container written by Clare Bayley, directed by Tom Wright, highlighting the plight of illegal immigrants coming to the UK, and English Touring Theatre's Far From The Madding Crowd, adapted by Mark Healy from Thomas Hardy, directed by Kate Saxon with a cast including Rebecca O'Mara, Phil Cheadle and Stephen Billington.
Launched last month by Robert Delamere and Tom Shaw with an investment of over £1 million Digital Theatre and its first five creative partner theatres - The Almeida Theatre Company, English Touring Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Young Vic - will produce downloadable theatre productions filmed in front of live audiences for users to download and keep from www.digitaltheatre.com
