Nathan Lane, Susan Brown and James McArdle Join the National Theatre's ANGELS IN AMERICA

The National Theatre confirms today that Susan Brown, Nathan Lane, James McArdle, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett will join Andrew Garfield, Denise Gough and Russell Tovey in the cast of Tony Kushner's Angels in America.

This 2017 revival of Kushner's landmark work will be directed by the Olivier and Tony award-winning director Marianne Elliott (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, War Horse, Husbands & Sons) and will open in the Lyttelton Theatre in May 2017. Further casting and booking dates for Angels in America will be announced later this year.

Susan Brown's numerous stage credits include Husbands & Sons, Harper Regan, The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other, Playing With Fire, Henry IV parts one and two and Cardiff East (all for the National Theatre), Good People (Noël Coward Theatre), Julius Caesar (Donmar at St Ann's Warehouse, New York), Making Noise Quietly and The Wild Duck (both for the Donmar Warehouse). She is also known for her role as Septa Mordane in Game of Thrones (HBO).

Nathan Lane is an award-winning stage, film and television actor and writer. He is best known for his roles as Albert in The Birdcage, Max Bialystock in the musical The Producers, Ernie Smuntz in MouseHunt and his voice work as Snowbell in Stuart Little and as Timon in The Lion King. Nathan Lane's TV work includes roles in Modern Family, The Good Wife, and American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson. He has won numerous awards for his stage work, including two Tony Awards and one Olivier Award for Best Actor in A Musical (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and The Producers).

James McArdle's theatre work includes the title role in Platonov, and Ivanov (Chichester Festival Theatre and the National Theatre- Ian Charleson nomination for Platonov), James I in The James Plays (National Theatre Scotland and the National Theatre), Emperor and Galilean (National Theatre), Chariots of Fire (Hampstead Theatre and the West End), The Heart of Robin Hood (RSC) and Spur of the Moment (Royal Court). TV includes 37 Days and Love & Marriage (both BBC).

Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is best known for his roles as Curtis Donovan in Misfits (E4) and as Ian in Utopia (Channel 4). His theatre work includes The History Boys (tour and West End), Wig Out (Royal Court) and The Pitchfork Disney (Arcola). Films include Dom Hemingway (BBC Films) and War Book (Sixteen Films).

Millennium Approaches, the first of the two plays which form Angels in America, received its British premiere at the National's Cottesloe Theatre in 1992, in Declan Donnellan's original production, and was joined by Perestroika in a double-bill the following year.
