Fresh from the cast of the highly acclaimed production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Ljubjana Summer Festival in Slovenia, Vancouver-born actress/singer Michelle LaFortune will present her debut solo cabaret at Chelsea’s chic and intimate venue The Pheasantry on Sunday, September 16.
Miss LaFortune, who trained at Toronto’s Randolph Acadamey Of The Performing Arts before embarking upon a career as a musical theatre performer which later brought her to London, has played roles on both sides of the Atlantic in shows as diverse as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oklahoma!, Mame, Sweet FA and the Olivier Award-winning Off West End production of La Boheme at the King's Head Theatre. She has also developed renown as producer/artistic director/performer in the popular monthly cabaret night, Gigging For It, at Soho’s Freedom Bar, where she has showcased and worked with some of the UK’s best new musical theatre songwriters, including Laurence Mark Wythe, Dougal Irvine, Michael Bradley, Craig Christie, Tamar Broadbent, Theo Jamieson, Christopher J. Orton and Joe Sterling.
In her cabaret at the Pheasantry, she will perform songs by some of her favourite writers featured at Gigging For It, accompanied by some of the writers whose songs she will be singing. Her programme will also include a selection of well-known musical theatre, pop and rock songs plus a few of her own original songs. The evening will feature special guest appearances from some of her “talented friends” - Kieran Brown (Wicked, Love Never Dies), Kit Orton (Spamalot) and Lucyelle Cliffe (The Thing About Men). The vocals will be accompanied by a 3-piece band, led by Musical Director, Simon Lambert (The Fix, Chicago).
