Michael Ball to Host the 2016 Olivier Awards, April 3

The Olivier Awards with MasterCard, the UK's most prestigious stage honours, have today announced that Michael Ball will host this year's awards ceremony. The awards, which this year celebrate their 40th anniversary, will be presented at a star-studded ceremony on Sunday 3 April at the Royal Opera House.

Michael Ball, the celebrated musical theatre star, is a two-time Olivier Award-winner whose illustrious career in the West End and on Broadway has spanned more than three decades. Ball won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2008 for Hairspray and in 2013 for Sweeney Todd, and previously co-hosted the awards in 2011 and 2012.

Michael Ball will also host the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard Nominations Announcement which takes place at 12:00 noon on Monday 29 February at Rosewood London, the Olivier Awards' official hotel partner. The announcement will be live streamed at www.olivierawards.com

Voting has now opened for the Magic Radio Audience Award. The award, created to celebrate London's long running shows, is the only category voted for entirely by members of the public. This year there are 16 eligible shows for which theatre fans from across the world are able to vote.

Voting for the award closes at 12:00 noon on Friday 11 March. The four shortlisted shows will be announced on Magic Radio on Monday 14 March. They will then perform on the ITV Stage in Covent GardenPiazza on Sunday 3 April. The full event on the public stage in Covent Garden, featuring live performances from the Magic Radio Audience Award shortlisted shows and others, will be livestreamed worldwide via the new Olivier Awards' YouTube Channel.

This year's awards will be broadcast live on Magic Radio's new digital spin-off station Mellow Magic. Extensive highlights of the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard will be broadcast on ITV on the evening of Sunday 3 April with the show available to view on the ITV Hub.
