Ho, ho, ho, "The Holy Grail of Musical Theatre"(Eric Idle), Monty Python's Spamalot will play a special four-week season at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham this Christmas, beginning on December 7th. Actor and television presenter Matthew Kelly will star as Arthur, King of the Britons. Well known for hosting ITV1's Saturday night favourite Stars In Their Eyes, Matthew won an Olivier Award for his role as Lennie in Birmingham Rep's production of Of Mice and Men and starred as George in the 2009 production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at Trafalgar Studios. More recently he appeared as Pozzo in Waiting For Godot in the West End with Ian McKellen and Roger Rees.

Joining Matthew onstage in Birmingham will be the nation's favourite Nancy Jodie Prenger as the Lady of the Lake and Todd Carty (ahem, Tucker and Mark Fowler from EastEnders!) as Patsy. Matthew said: "I'm thrilled to be in Spamalot in Birmingham this holiday season. I'm a massive Monty Python fan and I've always looked on the bright side of life, so I'll be putting on me best chain mail to play with my chums Jodie Prenger and Todd Carty. The people of Brum have always been fantastically kind to me over the years so it's a special treat for me to be appearing in this spectacular show at the Alex."

Monty Python's Spamalot began a sweeping tour of the UK in May 2010. Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is practically-new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score, (well, almost) created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez.

Monty Python's Spamalot won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005. Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and features a bevy (or possibly a brace) of beautiful show girls, witch burnings (cancelled due to health and safety) not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. The show features fantastic tunes which are catchier than the plague - He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights of the Round Table, Find Your Grail and of course the Nation's Favourite Comedy Song (Reader's Digest Poll 2009), Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.

Matthew Kelly will also star as Arthur, King of the Britons at Milton Keynes theatre from November 29th - December 4th 2010. Monty Python's Spamalot is currently touring the UK with Marcus Brigstocke, Jodie Prenger, Hayley Tamaddon and Todd Carty in the cast.
