Louise Dearman joins the cast of Of Thee I Sing, which plays at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday July 30.
George and Ira Gershwin's Pulitzer prize winning musical comedy, Of Thee I Sing, will come to life at the Royal Festival Hall, as it is presented for the first time as a musical in concert.
Presented by leading independent concert promoter Senbla in association with Elliot Davis, the classic 1932 musical was written by arguably one of the greatest songwriting duos of all time, the result being a musical comedy masterpiece with witty songs, fantastic lyric writing and beautiful melodies.
Last month the first cast names were revealed including Hannah Waddingham (Game Of Thrones), Hadley Fraser (Phantom), Tom Edden (Les Miserables), alongside an ensemble of Nicolas Colicos (How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying) and Christopher Doyle (Soho Cinders).
Producers Ollie Rosenblatt and Elliot Davis are delighted to announce further names, with casting by Anne Vosser. Louise Dearman (Wicked), Gavin Alex (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Tony Timberlake (Les Miserables) as well as additional ensemble cast including James Barron, Gareth Snook, Daisy Maywood and Gemma Wardle have all been confirmed, alongside the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra who will bring to life this fabulous score.
Ollie Rosenblatt, co-producer and MD of Senbla, and Elliot Davis, co-producer, said "We are delighted to present this rarely produced yet wonderful Gershwin masterpiece at the Festival Hall. We strive to present these classic musicals in concert with the best creative teams and casts we can assemble. The addition of Louise Dearman & Gavin Alex to join the previously announced Tom Edden, Hadley Fraser and Hannah Waddingham makes this a cast of exceptional quality and an evening not to be missed.'
Reimagined as a live concert experience, the story centres on American politics, and is a satirical look at a political party's idea of how to win an election. Focusing on John P Wintergreen who is running for president, the show deals with political idealism, corruption, love and impact not only on domestic relations but international ones too.
Featuring a full orchestra, great songs such as "Who Could Ask For Anything More", "Of Thee I Sing" will come alive, underlining this as one of the most wonderful scores of the era.
