LITTLE EYOLF to Make UK Premiere Image

The National Theatre of Norway returns to the UK for the first time in 18 years with Little Eyolf, one of Ibsen's major but rarely performed prose plays. Director Sophie Jupither puts the child Eyolf at the centre in this production, probes the complex question of how our children fit within our adult relationships - and shows that Ibsen's people speak strongly to us today.

Alfred Almers returns home from a writing retreat to his wife Rita and their only child Eyolf. He has abandoned his life's literary work for a new vocation: to devote himself to caring for his son. But what does that really mean? While his relationship with Rita disintegrates, one seismic event will change the course of his life forever. Little Eyolf is a haunting portrait of a marriage in crisis and the agony of acts and words that can never be undone.

Artistic Director of The Norwegian Ibsen Company, Kåre Conradi, plays Alfred Almers and Pia Tjelta plays Rita Almers, with Ine Jansen, John Emil Jørgensrud, Andrine Sæther and Sebastian Sørlie Lamb.

"There's a reason why Ibsen is one of the world's very greatest. He understands people in a way that is totally relevant in 2018. We all struggle with the same things." Kåre Conradi
