KITTY AND DAMNATION Gets Its World Premiere At The Lion and Unicorn Theatre 8/11-9/12

Kitty & Damnation, a new play by award-winning Joseph Crilly, is to get its world premiere at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre from Tuesday August 11 - Saturday September 12. Press night is Thursday August 13 at 7.30pm.

1829 Ireland and a bold and beautiful young country girl encounters the famous actor Edmund Kean. She decides to follow him and her destiny to the great city of London... Kitty & Damnation is a most turbulent and adventurous drama of heartfelt love and human frailty, involving touching pathos andsporadic episodes of mirth and joviality. It features deceit, gallantry, honest righteousness - and some frightful villains.

Cast: Amy Molloy (as Kitty), Ruairi Conaghan, Eddie Kingham, Shane Armstrong, Peter Gerald, Hugo Terry, Charlotte McCurry, Aimee Parkes and the voivce of Hugh Bonneville as Justice Ross.

Playwright Joseph Crilly's previous plays include ‘Secondhand Thunder' which was produced by Tinderbox Theatre Company and which won the 1998 Stewart Parker Award, a national new writing award in Ireland. This play was also shortlisted for the Thames TV Award. Tinderbox Theatre Company also produced an extensive tour of his play ‘On McQuillan's Hill' His play ‘Shuttle' was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award. Joseph has also written for Radio 4 drama ( ‘Comforting', ‘Stumbling' and ‘The Trick of Togetherness') and has worked extensively as a writer in television development. He is presently employed in co-ordinating a community health volunteer project in south-west London.

Ray Shell & the Artistic Directors of Giant Olive Theatre Company aim to develop the Lion & Unicorn into a springboard for unique writers, directors and performers. Following on from its recent success with ‘Getting Out', Giant Olive are pleased to present another piece of new writing from award winning playwright Joseph Crilly, who has joined the Giant Olive team as a Resident Writer.
