Jodie Prenger and Hannah Spearritt To Join Cast Of ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS From Mar 2

Nicholas Hytner's five star award-winning production of One Man, Two Guvnors will transfer to the Theatre Royal Haymarket (2 March – 1 September 2012) after two sell-out record-breaking runs at the National and Adelphi Theatres.  Joining the previously announcedOwain Arthur as lovable chancer Francis Henshall are Jodie Prenger and Hannah Spearritt who play Dolly and Pauline respectively.  Martin Barrass joins the cast to play Alfie with David Benson as Gareth, Nigel Betts as Harry, Derek Elroy as Lloyd, Gerard Horan as Charlie, Daniel Ings as Alan, Ben Mansfield as Stanley and Gemma Whelan as Rachel.  Final ensemble casting will be announced shortly. 

 

With songs by Grant OldingOne Man, Two Guvnors Physical Comedy Director is Cal McCrystal, designs are by Mark Thompson, with lighting by Mark Henderson, sound design by Paul Arditti, fight direction by Kate Waters and choreography by Adam Penford.

 

Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe… but Roscoe is really Rachel, posing as her own dead brother… who's been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and take a job with one Stanley Stubbers. To prevent discovery Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple.

 

Owain Arthur who has been understudying the role of Francis Henshall as part of the West End Company, has also been seen in Nicholas Hytner's National Theatre production of The History Boys, as well as Romeo and Juliet for the Royal Shakespeare CompanyThe Comedy of Errors for the Royal Exchange Theatre and Birdsong at the Comedy Theatre.  On television his credits include Holby City, Ddeg, Cei Bach, New Tricks and The Palace.  His film credits include Abroad, Mr Nice and Eldra.

 

Jodie Prenger (Dolly) won the role of Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh's revival production of Oliver! after winning BBC 1's I'd Do Anythingand has recently played The Lady of The Lake in the Spamalot UK tour.  Her other television projects include HustleJustin's HouseCandy Cabs and Waterloo Road, all for the BBC.  Prenger led the search to find a Toto for a gala performance of The Wizard of Oz through BBC 1's Over The Rainbow.  She has appeared extensively on BBC Radio 2 covering for Elaine Paige and Paul O'Grady as well as co-hosting Going Out With Alan Carr, the Chris Evans' Breakfast ShowLaurence Olivier Awards 2010 and Children in Need 2009.  She toured with John Barrowman on his UK concert tour in 2010 and 2011 and has made regular concert appearances on BBC Radio 2 including Thank You for the Music and The Friday Night Is Music Night James Bond Special.  Prenger can be heard singing So Close with John Barrowman on his self titled album and she recorded In The Mood for The Very Best of Glenn Miller.

 

Hannah Spearritt (Pauline) made her stage debut in The Belle's Stratagem at Southwark Playhouse last year.  A former member of the successful pop group S Club 7, Spearritt went on to appear in American films Agent Cody Banks 2:  Destination London and Seed of Chucky.  Her UK television work includes Miss Marple and Blessed, but she is best known for playing the leading role of Abby Maitland in five seasons of ITV's action packed sci-fi series Primeval. 

 

Martin Barrass' (Alfie) recent theatre credits include Peter Pan, Stan Laurel in Laurel and HardyThe Railway Children and Toad in The Wind in the Willows all for the Theatre Royal York.  He also appeared in Richard Bean's Toast for Hull Truck Theatre Company.  His television credits include EmmerdaleAngels and The Bill.

 

David Benson (Gareth) has been part of the One Man, Two Guvnors Company since its premiere at The National Theatre.  His other theatre credits include Future Me for Theatre 503, Same Time Next Year for the Theatre Royal Winchester and Loot for Derby Playhouse.  He has won two Fringe First awards for his one man shows Think No Evil of Us: My Life with Kenneth Williams and Lockerbie: Unfinished Business. His television credits include Bremner, Bird and Fortune, Little Britain and playing Noel Coward in Goodnight Sweetheart.

 

Nigel Betts (Harry) has just finished the highly successful run of Aladdin at the Lyric Hammersmith.  His other recent theatre credits includeWar Horse for The National Theatre at the New London Theatre,The 39 Steps  at the Criterion andTinderbox for the Bush Theatre.  His television credits include Doc MartinTrial and Retribution, The Catherine Tate Show and Moving Wallpaper.  On film his credits includeDesert Flower and Mrs. Ratcliffe's Revolution.

 

Daniel Ings' (Alan) theatre credits include Frankenstein for The National TheatreHowl's Moving Castle for Southwark Playhouse andBluebird for Bristol Old Vic.  His television credits include The CafePsychovillePeep Show and Pete Versus Life.  On film his credits includePirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Spiralling.

 

Gerard Horan's (Charlie) theatre credits include Jerusalem at the Royal Court and in the West End, A Miracle for the Royal Court andRichard III for Sheffield Theatres.  His recent television credits include Appropriate Adult, Any Human Heart and Lark Rise to Candleford.  His film credits include My Week with MarilynAs You Like It and Oliver Twist.

 

Derek Elroy (Lloyd) has been a member of the One Man, Two Guvnors ensemble since its premiere at The National Theatre.  Previously his theatre credits include The Harder They Come (Theatre Royal Stratford East, Barbican, West End and Canadian tour), Red Riding Hood andAladdin (Theatre Royal Stratford East), Dick Whittington and His Cat (Barbican) and I Was Looking at the Ceiling (Southwark Playhouse). TV credits include Rev, If…., Buried Treasure and The Bill. Film credits include Breakfast on Pluto and Bridget Jones's Diary.

 

Ben Mansfield (Stanley Stubbers) is probably best known on television for playing Captain Becker in series 3 and 4 of ITV's sci-fi seriesPrimeval, in which he stars alongside Hannah Spearritt.  His theatre credits include Twelfth Night for The National TheatreHenry IV Parts 1&2 for the Theatre Royal Bath and A Midsummer Night's Dream for the Rose Theatre, all of which were directed by Sir Peter Hall.

 

Gemma Whelan (Rachel) has recently completed filming for HBO's Game of Thrones. Her stage credits include Stephen and the Sexy Partridge at the Trafalgar Studios in which she was directed by Cal McCrystalBee Stings for Theatre 503 and Red Death Lates for Punchdrunk. Her other television credits include The Persuasionists and Cardinal Burns.  Her film credits include Gulliver's Travels and The Wolfman.

 

Richard Bean's plays include England People Very Nice for the National The Heretic, Harvest  (winner of the Critics' Circle Award for Best New Play), Honeymoon Suite, Under the Whaleback and Toast for the Royal Court and The Big Fellah for Out of Joint at the Lyric Hammersmith and on tour.  He adapted David Mamet's House of Games and wrote a new version of The Hypochondriac for The Almeida Theatre.  Last month Bean won the 2011 Evening Standard Award for Best Play for One Man, Two Guvnors and The Heretic.

 

Since he became Director of the National in April 2003, Nicholas Hytner has directed Henry V, His Dark Materials, The History Boys, Stuff Happens, Henry IV, Southwark Fair, The Alchemist, The Man of Mode, The Rose Tattoo (with Stephen Pimlott), Rafta, Rafta… , Much Ado About Nothing, Major Barbara, England People Very Nice, Phèdre, The Habit of Art, London Assurance, HamletCollaborators and Travelling Light.

 

For the continuing West End run of One Man, Two Guvnors at the Theatre Royal Haymarket there will be 130 tickets available at £15 for each performance.  There will be no booking fees for tickets purchased from The National Theatre Box Office or the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

 

Richard Bean's award-wining adaptation, based on Carlo Goldoni'sThe Servant of Two Masters, opened at The National Theatre in May 2011.  In November last year, after a UK tour, One Man, Two Guvnors opened in the West End at the Adelphi Theatre where it will complete a sell-out run on 25 February 2012.  A Broadway production of One Man, Two Guvnors will open at the Music Box Theatre on 18 April 2012.
