More2Screen and Shakespeare's Globe are delighted to announce that Jeanette Winterson and Emma Freud will host the live cinema broadcast of The Winter's Tale on Thursday 4 October.
The Globe's production of the much-loved late romance will be broadcast live to over 400 cinemas across the UK, Ireland and selected European territories.
Jeanette and Emma will be in the yard of the iconic 'wooden O' from 7.15pm and at the interval to welcome cinema audiences to the live screening, discuss the play and the history of the building, and interview some of the creatives behind the production.
In 2015 Jeanette published The Gap of Time, a contemporary novelisation or 'cover version' of The Winter's Tale set in London, Paris and the fictional 'New Bohemia'.
The sweeping plot of The Winter's Tale takes us from the seething, stifled Sicilian court to the joyful chaos of Bohemia. Shakespeare's great drama of irrational emotions and inexplicable forces shows us how even the greatest cruelties can be redeemed by love, forgiveness, and a little gentle magic...
The production is directed by Blanche McIntyre, who has previously directed both The Comedy of Errors and As You Like It on the Globe stage. Winner of the 2011 Critics' Circle Most Promising Newcomer Award and Best Director at the TMA UK Theatre Awards in 2013, she is well-known for her productions of The Writer (Almeida), The Seagull (Headlong), Accolade (St James' Theatre) and The Norman Conquests (Chichester Festival Theatre).
The play stars Will Keen (The Crown, Wolf Hall) as Leontes, Priyanga Burford (W1A, Marcella) as Hermione and Sirine Saba (Eastenders, Exhibition) as Paulina. It is composed by Academy Award-winner Stephen Warbeck.
