The producers of smash-hit West End show "JERSEY BOYS" have commissioned Pink Banana Studios, a new digital Production Company, to create an innovative 3D cinema advert, which first aired on Friday 5 March at 300 cinemas across London and the South East, before screenings of Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland". This is the first 3D cinema advert in the world to be created by a theatre Production Company.
Viewers wearing special glasses will be able to experience the four "JERSEY BOYS" performing a short medley of some of the best-loved songs from the show in full 3D effect.
The ad aims to revolutionise the way that theatres advertise their productions and is part of an evolving campaign that makes use of the emerging digital and innovative platforms.
Julian Stoneman, UK Executive Producer of "JERSEY BOYS" said, "I am delighted that we are the first musical to accomplish 3D advertising. Less than a year ago, it would have been impossible for the theatre industry to contemplate such a ground-breaking achievement".
The "JERSEY BOYS" brand, which uses innovation as its inspiration, previously launched digital moving posters across London's OOH network in November which had a great response with a surge in sales for the production. This campaign is being created and developed by aka Promotions and Pink Banana Studios. aka have held the marketing and advertising account for Jersey Boys for 3 years and are working with Pink Banana Studios to direct, realise and develop this pioneering approach to advertising.
aka is one of London's leading live entertainment advertising, design, sales, promotions and marketing agencies, consisting of an innovative, dedicated, passionate and creative team specialising in client specific marketing and promotion strategies.
Simon Delany, aka Account Director for "JERSEY BOYS" said, ‘We are continually looking to use new advertising formats to increase ticket sales for this award-winning musical. A 3D cinema advert gives potential audiences the closest opportunity to experience the show they can have without actually being in the theatre."
Pink Banana Studios is a young and energetic company run by Heather Pirret and James Dartnall who specialize in content production and delivery for existing and emerging digital technologies.
James Dartnall said, "Creating a successful cinema ad for a theatre production relies on captivating the audience with familiar visual and audio effects, the 3D element of this ad allowed us to add an extraordinary depth to this experience - whisking the cinema audience into the theatre for a brief moment. We always encourage our clients to utilize digital technologies to deliver targeted, effective ads and working with aka on this campaign has given us the opportunity to really push the creative potential of 3D."
